The Skoidats - The Times

I felt that a Montana Skanker should review a Montana Ska band. The Times is a magnificent album and a must for any Traditional Ska fan, Oi fan, or Punk fan. The album features catchy ska and oi and some great Skunk. Last Night and the Times are two of the highlights on a CD that is full of them. Also be sure to check the remake of the the Clancy brothers BEER! Not To many times for me to take an advantage like this.

The Skoidats - A Cure For What Ales You

This album is most def a classic if you are into oi or ska. I used to not like ska (Still don't like most of that poppy stuff), but this album is worth picking up. Although their other album is better (The Times), I still play this one frequently. Trust me, if you want to get into ska, especially if you are a crusty gutter dwelling punk, this is a good transition record. True rootsy ska at it's finest!

Operation Ivy - Operation Ivy

Operation Ivy’s Energy is back after years of being unavailable. Formed in 1987, Op Ivy are a legendary 4-piece fronted by future Rancid cohorts Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, along with friends Jesse Michaels (Common Rider) and Dave Mello. Originally distributed by Lookout! Records as a compilation in 1991, which sold in excess of 500,000 copies, Operation Ivy features the group's only LP (Energy) as well as their 7" EP (Hectic) and two songs from the 7" EP compilation Turn It Around. Remastered by Gene Grimaldi (Tiger Army, Transplants, Pennywise, NOFX), the album will be released as a digipak with original artwork. Now considered a classic, and regularly namechecked in lists of the all-time great punk albums, Energy is one of the few records that sells as much year in year out as it did in its original release, as new generations of fans discover this influential album.

Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves

Just as Green Day aped the Ramones, their contemporaries in this Southern California punk quartet aspired to be the Clash. But also like Green Day, Rancid's fresh approach and excellent songs (including the ska-punk MTV hit "Time Bomb" and the anthemic "Roots Radicals") rose far above tribute-band level. And poet Jim Carroll (The Basketball Diaries) adds spoken-word stream-of-consciousness to the dour "Junkyman." While 19 songs makes this 1995 CD drag on a bit too long, Wolves is evidence of punk rock's relevance a full two decades after the Sex Pistols. --Steve Knopper

Nofx/Rancid - BYO split series vol. III

Release Date: March 05, 2002
It was BYO’s idea to do this thing, but it was Lint’s idea to do each others songs, and that’s what this thing is. Rancid doing 6 NOFX songs and NOFX doing 6 Rancid songs. I think it turned out pretty good. We spent way more time in the studio than we should of. Like 2 weeks I think, but we recorded 6 new NOFX songs too. Those will be on our new album I guess. I didn’t try to do Matt’s bass riffs cuz they’re too hard to figure out. We also changed a few chord progressions here and there cuz, why the hell not. We didn’t change any lyrics though, well just a few by mistake. It’s actually pretty hard to make out what Lint sings on Corazon de Oro. I gave it my best shot. -NOFX

Rancid - Indestructible

Where Rancid's eponymous 2000 album saw the band attempting to re-seize the moral high ground by aping the hardcore sound of the early 1980s, Indestructible is a return to the eclectic mix of their own breakthrough album And Out Come the Wolves. Thus "Red Hot Moon" and "Memphis" are melancholy, Clash-inspired grooves, "Arrested in Shanghai" and "Back Up Against the Wall" are melodic pop rock, while "Out of Control" and "Born Frustrated" are screaming punk assaults. Their politics, naturally, remain sound, as evinced by "Ivory Coast" and the anti-violence anthem "Spirit of '87". --Dominic Wills
