Operation Ivy - Operation Ivy

Operation Ivy’s Energy is back after years of being unavailable. Formed in 1987, Op Ivy are a legendary 4-piece fronted by future Rancid cohorts Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, along with friends Jesse Michaels (Common Rider) and Dave Mello. Originally distributed by Lookout! Records as a compilation in 1991, which sold in excess of 500,000 copies, Operation Ivy features the group's only LP (Energy) as well as their 7" EP (Hectic) and two songs from the 7" EP compilation Turn It Around. Remastered by Gene Grimaldi (Tiger Army, Transplants, Pennywise, NOFX), the album will be released as a digipak with original artwork. Now considered a classic, and regularly namechecked in lists of the all-time great punk albums, Energy is one of the few records that sells as much year in year out as it did in its original release, as new generations of fans discover this influential album.

Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves

Just as Green Day aped the Ramones, their contemporaries in this Southern California punk quartet aspired to be the Clash. But also like Green Day, Rancid's fresh approach and excellent songs (including the ska-punk MTV hit "Time Bomb" and the anthemic "Roots Radicals") rose far above tribute-band level. And poet Jim Carroll (The Basketball Diaries) adds spoken-word stream-of-consciousness to the dour "Junkyman." While 19 songs makes this 1995 CD drag on a bit too long, Wolves is evidence of punk rock's relevance a full two decades after the Sex Pistols. --Steve Knopper

Nofx/Rancid - BYO split series vol. III

Release Date: March 05, 2002
It was BYO’s idea to do this thing, but it was Lint’s idea to do each others songs, and that’s what this thing is. Rancid doing 6 NOFX songs and NOFX doing 6 Rancid songs. I think it turned out pretty good. We spent way more time in the studio than we should of. Like 2 weeks I think, but we recorded 6 new NOFX songs too. Those will be on our new album I guess. I didn’t try to do Matt’s bass riffs cuz they’re too hard to figure out. We also changed a few chord progressions here and there cuz, why the hell not. We didn’t change any lyrics though, well just a few by mistake. It’s actually pretty hard to make out what Lint sings on Corazon de Oro. I gave it my best shot. -NOFX

Rancid - Indestructible

Where Rancid's eponymous 2000 album saw the band attempting to re-seize the moral high ground by aping the hardcore sound of the early 1980s, Indestructible is a return to the eclectic mix of their own breakthrough album And Out Come the Wolves. Thus "Red Hot Moon" and "Memphis" are melancholy, Clash-inspired grooves, "Arrested in Shanghai" and "Back Up Against the Wall" are melodic pop rock, while "Out of Control" and "Born Frustrated" are screaming punk assaults. Their politics, naturally, remain sound, as evinced by "Ivory Coast" and the anti-violence anthem "Spirit of '87". --Dominic Wills

Tim Armstrong - A Poet's Life

The Rancid Punx have a streak. It's been brought to my attention that since 2000, Rancid or members of , have put out a record every year. Here's a break down of the past six years. In 2000 there was RANCID V.In 2001, the release of Lars' solo record, LARS FREDERIKSEN AND THE BASTARDS. 2002, the Transplants dropped our first album.Rancid's INDESTRUCTIBLE was put out in 2003. Lars' second solo record, THE VIKING, was released in 2004. Travis, Rob, and I went back into the studio to work on the Transplants' 2nd album, HAUNTED CITIES, which dropped in 2005. And for 2007, Rancid will have out our seventh record.

This year 2006, we're going to keep the streak going. I've been in the studio, recording songs and decided to put them out as a solo record. This album is going to be different from the rest, mainly because we're going to give it away for free on the internet. It's our way of saying thanks to everyone, for all the support over the years.

The next record I'll be working on is Rancid's seventh album. We're recording it as soon as we get off the road in December. Our plan is to jump into the studio right after tour, that's when our playing and singing is the strongest.

In the upcoming years, I hope to make another Transplants album. I love recording with those guys. We're not sure if we're going to make another Bastards record. But you never know because the last one came about kind of organically after the Rancid Japan 2004 tour. Lars and I went into a studio in Tokyo, and demoed a handful of songs that ended up becoming the VIKING.

The first song and video off my solo record is called Hold On. It was recorded with the Aggrolites in Los Angeles. This track has an old school sound. We put one mic on the drums and everything was played live, keeping it real raw. The video was shot in one night wth a group of friends. Lars even flew down from SF to hang out and be in it. In the months to come I plan on dropping the rest of the record for free on the internet, one track at a time.

Thanks,

TIM
